A Look Into the TaylorMade Performance Lab

Good quality golf clubs are an extremely important part of performing well in your game. Having clubs tailored to your swing and specific body movements is going to give you more positive results and control over the golf ball. Going to your local golf store and picking out a club because it looks cool is not the way to go about it. Since there are so many brands and styles of clubs, it can be hard to decide which direction to go in, especially when there is a lot of competition between who is the best company to buy from; TaylorMade, Titelest, Ping, Callaway, or Cobra.

Often people base their decision on the clubs and brand that their favourite pro uses, for instance Tiger Woods uses all TaylorMade clubs from the driver all the way down to the wedges inspiring fans to do the same (What’s in the bag? Tiger Woods’ clubs at the 2023 Masters, April 3, 2023). In reality this isn't the best decision because this could be the completely wrong choice for them. Golf clubs and the way they are set up do much more than people think. Slight adjustments to loft, grip size, shaft length, and weight of the club can change the trajectory significantly. If you happen to get a club built for a pro, you likely won't be seeing the same results because you don't have the speed or swing for that type of club, and of course you are not Tiger Woods, the greatest golfer of all time. The experience at TaylorMade Performance Lab shows the importance of these slight adjustments very well.

The Performance Lab is located in Vaughan Valley Center and provides an indepth club fitting experience for golfers looking for new clubs. Their main goal at the lab for their customers is to find something they feel comfortable swinging but also enjoy the appearance of. Fitting instructors go into extreme detail to explain club path, club face, and shot shape to make sure you understand how you are hitting the ball. In order to do this they put a pullover-suit and a hat that has sensors all over on your body to measure how your body moves through the ball. This information is then transformed onto a big screen where you can analyze further. After gathering stats with your own clubs the fitter has an idea of what you are looking for and that's when the fun begins. They have a wide variety of testing selections from shafts to grips to heads of the golf club so you can give anything a try. The fitter recommends certain clubs and makes different combinations while you test club after club. The fitter looks for your input and how you feel swinging the new shaft or club head, whatever it may be, and expects an honest response to what you are thinking. This way you can eliminate things you don't feel comfortable with.

Another extremely important part of this fitting is the technology. They have multiple hitting bays with Foresight technology including the GC Quad launch monitor which provides accurate readings of multiple stats of the golf swing. They use the GEAR system which is the full swing and body sensor system, and evaluates every movement in the body and transforms it into a 3D image to view on screen (TaylorMade, N.D). Lastly they use cameras and monitors that cover the room, analyzing each swing you make to catch the most accurate readings.

An experience like this is one of a kind, and truly special with the help of your expert fitter. Going through a fitting at the Performance Lab, you will feel well looked after and like you're in good hands but also like they are really routing for you and trying to find what's going to help your game. The fitters' expert opinion and experience with TaylorMade clubs is really reassuring, making you feel completely satisfied when you leave, knowing the perfect set of golf clubs are on the way.

Multiple reliable sources and expert opinions can show the brilliant attention to detail and personalization that TaylorMade is capable of. For instance when Tiger Woods made the switch from Nike equipment to TaylorMade equipment, Woods worked with CEO David Abeles to create the perfect set of clubs after recovering from an injury. Abeles says:

“It became evident to us and to him that we could do special things as he worked into the next era of his career. He started to put movable weight technology in play, he put adjustable driver in play, we worked together to build an iron that was perfect for him, we worked on new wedge bounces together, and here we are a couple of years later an his resurgence has seen him win another major get back to the top”

This goes to show you TaylorMade is going to extreme lengths to provide the best results for their pros but also their average golfers. Attention to detail is something they thrive in and shows you why people like Tiger Woods, Rory Mcllroy, Collin Morikawa, Nelly Korda, and Rickie Fowler are all representing TaylorMade on tour.
